About the Position: This position serves as the technical leader and advisor for the USACIL Forensic Biologist functions and operations. Oversees the technical operations of the laboratory. Serves as an authoritative consultant to the USACIL Director, and as a DNA technical leader for advising USACIL biologists.
Duties
Provides and facilitates technical advice and support to forensic biologist examiners.
Provides guidance and collaborates with the USACIL DNA casework AND database to support DoD units and other requesting agencies receiving USACIL forensic support.
Serves as an authoritative consultant to the USACIL Director, and as a DNA technical leader for advising USACIL biologists.
Proposes, reviews, develops, and implements new or modified analytical procedures.
Interprets literature pertaining to crime laboratory analytical methods for the most current techniques and trends and attends seminars, courses, and professional meetings.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Secret security clearance.
- Employee is required to lift evidence that weights up to 40 pounds to working heights of 48 inches.
- Must participate in DNA profiling database within the USACIL.
- Position is subject to Lautenberg/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.

Basic Requirement for Biologist 0401 Series:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience Requirement: To qualify as a Biologist (Forensic Examiner Technical Expert), applicants must also meet the specialized experience requirement. Specialized experience is defined as at least one (1) year of experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service which includes conducting complex analysis to develop DNA profiles; reviews functions of the offender DNA database program; providing expert formal testimony in courts of law on cases ranging from the simplest to the most difficult or complex; maintaining documentation of all serology and DNA validations, audits, and accreditation processes.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
