You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the NUCLEAR ENGINEERING & PLANNING DEPARTMENT- 2300, HEAD NUCLEAR ENGINEER-2309, NUCLEAR FACILITIES & WASTE MANAGEMENT DIVISION-2380 of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.
Duties
You will perform administrative and technical supervision over engineering work involved in repair, modification, maintenance and installation of fluid systems and mechanical components in nuclear reactor plant of nuclear powered submarines.
You will supervise engineering and design work on temporary support systems, reactor plant arrangements, shielding, material and manufacture requirements, metallurgy and more.
You will direct and control the activities of the branch and serve as the shipyard's expert, both internally and externally on all matters pertaining to nuclear reactor engineering.
You will be responsible for the planning, engineering and coordination of production required to carry out projects to a satisfactory conclusion.
You will act as the subject matter expert SME in various functional areas of the branch and assign projects and work to subordinate personnel, ensure timely completion and quality of work.
You will coordinate the work of these personnel in the interest of designated objectives; recommend action on personnel matters concerning assigned personnel.
You will provide advice and guidance, and resolve technical, scientific, engineering and design problems beyond the capacity of the support personnel.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: professional Supervisory Nuclear Engineer knowledge of engineering design, disciplines, and processes in an engineering field such as nuclear, structural, mechanical, industrial, metallurgy, hydraulics, chemical or electrical. Demonstrating thorough knowledge of shipyard procedures and NAVSEA requirements related to nuclear propulsion plant work. Providing administrative and technical supervision. Providing mentoring and coaching to engineers. Knowledge of shipyard, NAVSEA, local, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to apply technical knowledge, experience and ingenuity. Ability to make decisions for applicability, adapting, and developing guidelines using complex, controversial or novel concepts. Ability to effectively communicate (written and oral).

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
