You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department, of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.
Duties
You will serve as the Head Nuclear Engineer and will be responsible for the technical direction and project coordination of all Shipyard nuclear power programs.
You will resolve technical engineering and design problems beyond the capacity of subordinates.
You will participate and lead conferences and discussions involving technical problems concerned with nuclear power plants with representatives involved in the construction and repair of nuclear-powered submarines and surface ships.
You will represent the Nuclear Engineering Department and occasionally the shipyard on the sea trials of nuclear-powered ships completing overhauls.
You will participate in the development of the total Shipyard training program pertaining to all phases of work on nuclear propulsion plants and furnish the technical requirements for which the training programs will be based.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying professional engineering theories, concepts, and principles to provide technical direction for and management of nuclear reactor overhaul programs in support of the overhaul, repair, alteration, maintenance, and testing of ship or submarine nuclear reactor plant components and systems.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
