You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department, Nuclear Quality Division of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will function as Shipyard expert on all aspects of nuclear quality control issues. You will plan, execute and monitor the Nuclear Quality Control Program. You will organize and accomplish surveillances, audits, evaluations and assessments to determine the adequacy of all shipyard organizations technical direction and execution as it affects naval Nuclear Work. You will conduct review of sample shipyard documents, processes and programs used for the performance of Naval Nuclear Work by the Shipyard, ensuring requirements of NAVSEA Naval Nuclear Quality Control Manual is followed. You will conduct independent assessments of the performance of Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department as required. You will obtain input from the Government Inspector concerning welding and nondestrive testing performance in the shipyard. You will assess the overall performance of radiological controlsto ensure the basic causes of problems have been identified, and that they are being corrected and senior managers are aware.

Requirements

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer planning, executing, monitoring a nuclear quality control program (e.g.surveillances, audits, evaluations and assessments) providing technical direction of nuclear work in an industrial environment to comply with all radiological regulations. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
