The Program Support Assistant position is to perform administrative and program analysis work and ensure program compliance for Veterans in the Caregiver Support Program (CSP). The program goal is to not only to support caregivers in their role but to also promote their health and well-being through education, therapeutic engagement, and resource and service linkage.
Duties
This position is covered by AFGE bargaining unit. Per the AFGE Master Agreement, the Area of Consideration will be:
1st Area of Consideration: Current permanent Facility (including satellites) employees
2nd Area of Consideration: Current Permanent VA employees.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
Frequent telephone and in person contact with a variety of individual at all levels within the medical center and community as well as, all other civilian program agencies.
Accepts telephone calls from patients, family members, caregivers, and staff regarding program inquiries, patient care concerns, etc.
Ensures timely clinical response to patients/callers that potentially have an emergent or urgent care need through prompt identification of the problem and appropriate clinical referral while exercising mature judgement and diplomacy.
Works independently on ongoing projects and continually updates and analyzes records for providing accurate and timely information upon request.
Assists in tracking tracking internal reviews, action items and suspense's, qualify measures, and the efficiency of Caregiver Support Program.
Processes all incoming correspondence, faxes and action documents
Research and assemble background information about incoming correspondence prior to expediting referrals.
Troubleshoots technical problems uses have with software packages and hardware issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm or 7:30am-4:00pm
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/29/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Prepares reports using databases to collect, compile, analyze, and present data; Processes incoming correspondence, faxes and action documents and obtains hard copy patient records; Utilizes multiple software program to develop and prepare marketing materials; Prepares the budget and completes monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting; and Maintains and posts time and attendance reports using the automated system. (This experience must be supported by your resume to be creditable).

Physical Requirements: Light Lifting (20 - 11 lbs. occasionally; 10 lbs. or less frequently); Light Carrying (20 -11 lbs. occasionally; 10 lbs. or less frequently); Straight Pulling (up to 1 hour); Pushing (1 - 2 hours); Reaching above shoulder; frequent keyboarding (4-7 hours per day); Sitting (4-7 hours per day); Walking (up to 3 hours); Standing (up to 3 hours); Repeated bending (up to 1 hour); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Correctable near sited and far-sited.
Vision; and Hearing (aid permitted). The work is generally performed in an outpatient/office setting of the Medical Center. The environment involves those everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and meeting rooms. Although the employee works in a health care facility where exposure to contagious diseases and carcinogenic materials exist, the tasks required for this position do not put the employee at a serious risk for this type of exposure. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. From time to time, travel by government vehicle as indicated by the CSP Program Manager may be required.
