The position is in the Medical Administration Service (MAS) of the Alexandria VA Health Care System (AVAHCS) and position provides coverage of patient accounts and decedent affairs for the facility. This position serves as "trustee" for Personal Funds of Patients, Details Clerk, and provides general office support.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintains patient fund accounts (receive deposits, post deposits to individual accounts, post withdrawals, and balance accounts daily)
Maintains statistical data and compile reports related to patient fund accounts.
Follows guidelines, directives, manuals, standard operating procedures, regulations, and other guidance in performing work.
Advises families on death and burial benefits.
Prepares forms required in the processing of death cases.
Compiles data and prepare reports such as mortality reports, audits, and reviews.
Assists confused, distraught and/or upset individuals who do not understand policies and regulations.
Communicates with and treat customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Provides customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Handles conflict and problems dealing with customers constructively and appropriately.
Uses Microsoft Word or comparable word processing software to prepare letters, reports, and memoranda.
Uses Microsoft Excel or comparable spreadsheet software to create and edit spreadsheets.
Uses Microsoft Outlook to send and receive emails.
Uses Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (VistA) applications or other comparable health information system(s) to access information or input data.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the position sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, medical records, etc. No special demands are required to perform the work.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-6 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Provide assistance to customers and resolve issues or problems that arise.
Experience in basic accounting and/or collection of funds.
Basic computer skills including Microsoft word.
Experience with filing and filing systems.
Provides clerical support to an organization
There is no educational substitution for the GS-6 level.
