About the Position: The person in this position will perform as an independent licensed social worker, exercising significant freedom and judgment in carrying out all phases of the comprehensive social work process and provide professional social work services to patients and their families, spanning all ages, in the inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient settings at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Provide comprehensive social work services to various beneficiary groups. Develop and/or coordinate procedures for the use of community services by related staffs and satellite facilities. Conduct comprehensive psychosocial evaluations of both inpatients and outpatients. Provide brief strategic and crisis counseling for patients and families who are in acute psychiatric distress. Provide individual, group psychotherapy, comprehensive clinical family therapy, and aftercare planning, as indicated by the Service population, to include children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Provide evidenced-based treatment modalities that are specific and appropriate to each patient’s age and circumstance. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker: Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience:One year of specialized experience which includes conducting bio-psychosocial evaluations, providing individual or group therapy, and developing behavioral health treatment plans or recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of the license with your application package.) Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For the GS-12, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
