The Supervisory Civilian Pay Technician (CPT) supervises subordinate CPTs and performs civilian pay program work in direct support of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center under the Finance Service.
The duty location for this position is Columbia, Missouri.
Duties

Duties include, but not limited to, the following:
Supervises subordinate Civilian Pay Technicians who serve as local technical payroll experts to VA staff
Provides data, reports, guidance, and resolutions to payroll issues across the VA Medical Center through research, resolution and response to verbal and written pay and leave inquiries
Promotes effective utilization of employees to achieve program goals and ensures efficient and economical work by planning, scheduling, organizing, coordinating, assigning, directing and reviewing CPT work
Sets and adjusts short-term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work
Promotes career development by ensuring training programs are available and completed
Develops resolutions/solutions to unique or regular and recurring payroll errors
Handles and assists subordinate CPTs with the most complex payroll actions
Gathers all information, interprets and takes meaningful action on transactions that lack specificity at times due to system interfaces and/or updates or tax changes
Traces errors involving correction of pay covering long periods of time, requiring extensive research to identify and resolve pay issues
Develops written procedures
Develops customer service surveys, in-take systems and example responses to common questions/inquiries
Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following:
You must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes leading/overseeing payroll processing and providing guidance to staff in the interpretation of policies, regulations, laws, etc., for a variety of pay plans; training staff on payroll procedures; advising and counseling staff on payroll and administrative matters; utilizing an automated pay system; and resolving pay and time/attendance issues. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: Supervises CPTs which don't work with regular and recurring hazardous issues or require higher than normal safety precautions to perform duties.
