You will serve as a Interdisciplinary Physical Scientist/Geophysicist/Oceanographer/Geodesist/ Mathematician in the Hydrographic Projects Support Branch (NP422), Data Management Division (NP42), Hydrographic Department (NP4), of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will process tide and geodetic data, evaluate its accuracy and recommendations and determine the processing flow needed to expedite and produce the final product.
You will write geodetic, tide planning documents, specification and procedures, and make recommendations for the processing of tide and geodetic data for various requirements.
You will compute and generate tidal datum, models, zoning, and predicted corrections for various tide projects and requests.
You will develop Standard Operations Procedures to compile and process tide and geodetic data.
You will perform analysis on technological problems and implement acceptable solutions.
You will identify and recommend solutions to software and hardware problems as they relate to data processing.
Requirements
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience and knowledge of oceanographic, geographic, and cartographic concepts, theories, and principles;
Experience in the formation and distribution of bathymetric and hydrographic features;
Experience in map projections; experience in tidal measurements, tidal analysis and predictions, and use of numerical tidal models;
Experience using geodetic computations on the ellipsoid, horizontal/vertical datum fundamentals, GPS positioning theory, and precise positioning methodology;
Experience planning and directing scientific and technical projects;
Experience performing extensive, independent analysis on technological problems and implementing acceptable solutions.

Basic Requirements:
- Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
or
- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Geophysics Series, 1313
Basic Requirements:
- Degree: that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).

- Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Oceanography Series, 1360
Basic Requirements:
- Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

- Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
Geodesy Series, 1372
Basic Requirements:
- Degree: geodesy; or 30 semester hours in any combination of geodesy, mathematics, physics, astronomy, engineering science, surveying, geodetic surveying, photogrammetry, or geophysics. The course work must have included differential and integral calculus.
