The Program Support Assistant (Credentialing & Privileging) is assigned to the Chief of Staff Office. Support includes Non-Licensed Independent Practitioners (Non-LIPs), such as Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, & Physical Therapists. Ensures compliance with VA guidelines, The Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General, Government Accountability Office and other internal or external reviewers as required. Provides backup support to the C&P Specialist.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for all credentialing requirements as outlined in policy.
Serves as subject matter expert (SME) in the field of credentialing.
Assists C&P Manager or Analyst in drafting local credentialing procedures for LIP and Non-LIPs.
Issues of a serious nature are elevated to C&P Manager/Analyst for guidance.
Develops and provides routine and special reports as requested by the C&P Manager/Analyst.
Composes correspondence requiring Clinical Service Chiefs and Medical Center Director signatures for credentialing actions.
Maintains local VAMC requirement files and records pertaining to the credentialing process.
Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act in releasing information.
Conducts final appointment into the VetPro database, after thoroughly researching, analyzing and validating all data, information, documents and signature authorities.
Receives and reviews correspondence and communications for the credentials function and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature.
Uses significant judgement to inform leadership and appropriate administrative staff of program changes, new regulatory requirements, policies and procedures or issues and concerns pertaining to the credentialing program.
Internal monitoring for compliance and timely update of expiration of time-limited credentials including, but not limited to, monitoring of licensure, registration, or certification expirations and continuous enrollment in the NPDB continuous query program for licensed providers.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Monday - Friday

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Occasionally, light physical effort may be required, such as that involved with walking, stair climbing, and carrying of light office items.

GS-07 Grade Level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized Experience Includes: Audits all required credentials for authenticity and veracity in accordance with TJC standards and VHA policies and procedures. Analysis and documentation of responses, identification of variances, and the resolution of discrepancies and problems within the responsibility scope. Monitoring of licensure, registration, or certification expirations and continuous enrollment in the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) continuous query program for licensed providers. Assists drafting local credentialing procedures for LIP and Non-LIPs. Receives and reviews correspondence and communications for the credential function, VetPro reports and detecting problem areas requiring further investigation. Conducts final appointment into VetPro database, after researching, analyzing, and validating all data, information, documents, and signature authorities. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) in credentialing.
There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.
