About the Position: These positions are located at Evans Army Community Hospital, Fort Carson, Colorado. This position is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference; if there are no Veteran's preference eligible applicants available, non-preference applicants may be considered. Duties

Conduct periodic parcel, package, container and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures to ensure accountability and safety. Respond to all intrusion detection system (IDS)/unauthorized access alarm and detains individuals when and/or if necessary. Detain personnel suspected of criminal or illegal activity in accordance with applicable policies and procedures. Use basic computer skills to prepare job related paperwork. Secure weapons and/or contraband until it can be released to the Installation Provost Marshal Office or appropriate civilian law enforcement agency. Operate radio communication system to receive and transmit messages. Control vehicle and pedestrian at fixed posts to ensure safety. Conduct physical checks to ensure the security of buildings, compounds, or perimeters.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
• This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
• This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
• Requirements in Individual Reliability Program (IRP) may apply.
• Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility Test (PAT).
• Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
• Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
• This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing armed guard services for the protection of life (employees, visitors, patients, etc.) and government property; patrolling facilities, property, and/or perimeters by motorized vehicle or on foot; writing incidents reports or findings regarding an incident; responding to a variety of alarms in the facility; and performing access control and/or using physical access control equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
