Duties
Perform Installation Access Control as armed security guard for pedestrians and vehicles accessing Fort Carson.
Performs Visitor Control Center (VCC) duties. Incumbent is responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
Serve as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.
Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and to ease congestion.
Inspects containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicles, exercises tact, courtesy, and firmness in the performance of all force protection duties.
Assists Department of the Army Civilian and Military police as required by rerouting traffic, obtaining facts, taking statements, etc.
Processes a variety of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) queries and provides timely response as appropriate or required.
Verifies personnel credentials, prints visitor passes and/or badges, creates and edits cardholder records and runs card and/or pass access reports.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized work experience with the Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved: 1)The protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; 2) Maintaining order and protecting life AND 3) Controlling access of vehicles, visitors and/or pedestrians into a facility or area. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
