Duties

You will install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electronic equipment of moderate complexity with regard to design, construction, and function. You will service electronic equipment such as signal generators, microphones, speakers and amplifiers, multichannel very high frequency (VHF) transmitters or receivers, power supplies, and multilayered printed circuit boards. You will install, troubleshoot, maintain and repair fire alarm systems such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, Class A and Class B wiring systems, King Fisher Transmitter boxes, interface panels, signal transmitters, and signal receivers. You will install, troubleshoot, test, repair and maintain intercommunication units, voltage regulators, electronic motor controllers and starters, air compressors, lift station control systems, and fresh water electrical systems. You will work from manufacturers specifications, schematics, block diagrams, and technical orders to determine the operation of circuits, to locate points from which to take readings, and to analyze the schematic layout. You will make preliminary visual inspections and perform operational tests to determine components causing malfunctions or invalid readings. You will use a variety of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, pulse and signal generators, distortion and waveform analyzers, digital data generators, digital voltmeters, frequency and pulse counters, and special test panels.

  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The incumbent fabricates, overhauls, modifies, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electronic equipment. CERTIFICATIONS: This position requires the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems, Inspection and Testing of Water Bases Systems or Special Hazards systems. If the incumbent does not possess a NICET Level II certification at the time of hire, but meets other requirements of the position description, he/she must acquire the NICET Level II certification within two (2) years from the date of hire.
