The Transportation Assistant position will serve as a primary contact for Veterans, doctors, nurses and administrative staff to arrange travel for eligible Veterans to appointments and residence when appropriate, using laws and regulations to distinguish/ensure reimbursements are legitimate or if fraudulent activity is being conducted by the beneficiary.
This position is located at the Audie L. Murphy VAMC in San Antonio, Texas within Health Administration Service (HAS).
Duties
Duties may include but are not limited to:
-Responsible for determining method of payment for authorized and unauthorized ambulance claims submitted for consideration.
-Acts as liaison between vendors and Financial Management Service (FMS) for invoices pending payment.
-Writes or selects appropriate letters explaining disposition of unauthorized travel claims.
-Reconciles vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certifications for payment.
-Communicates and interacts with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.
-Professional communication etiquette will be utilized in all modes of customer contact, in person, telephone, and email correspondence.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30a.m. to 4:00p.m./8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/27/2023.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Ability to identify problems, analyze issues, develop solutions/resolutions and follow-up; Knowledge of medical terminology; Knowledge of Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) and Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to access appointment information, VistA email system, MS Office products, spreadsheets, and other equipment. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years of education beyond high school level. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
