You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will inspect boilers, unfired pressure vessels, piping, and related controls and equipment to ensure safe operations.
You will perform acceptance tests on newly installed or constructed heating power boilers and unfired pressure vessels.
You will certify equipment approved for use when the equipment successfully passes inspection.
You will analyze operating problems and recommend changes to correct deficiencies.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Boiler Inspector license.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications
This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates.
A NAVFACENGCOM Certificate of Competency, and current Boiler Inspector license issued by the NAVFAC Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center's (EXWC) NAVFAC Boiler & UPV Program Manager.

For the GS-12 Position:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Ensuring code compliance in the construction and maintenance of boilers, water heaters, and unfired pressure vessels; 2) Conducting inspections, tests, and certifications of boilers (e.g., firetube boilers, water-tube boilers, and hot water boilers) and unfired pressure vessels to ensure efficient operations; 3) Review activity reports to determine compliance with inspection schedules, standards and codes; and 4) Applying mechanical engineering principles and concepts as applied to boiler plants, heating plants, power plants, power plant controls and auxiliary equipment. For the GS-11 Position:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Understanding the maintenance and operations, inspection, testing and certification of all types of boilers; 2) Providing engineering technical services, technical assistance, inspection and support; and 3) Training to become a licensed Boiler Inspector.
