About the Position: The Patient Advocate is the official point of contact for all issues pertaining to patient's rights and advocacy for the SW Kentucky Market. Provides a channel through which patients/patient's representative can seek solutions to problems, concerns, and unmet needs. Contributes to the overall patient satisfaction and staff morale. The hours of work will be M-F 0730-1600 in person and inside Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.

Duties
Interpret mission, policies, procedures and available resources and services to the customer/patient.
Present problems, opinions, and needs to appropriate staff and management.
Plan, develop, and conduct briefings for various patients, staff, and community groups.
Write and distribute a variety of educational/informational material; including patient handouts, and training aids for briefings.
Maintain a database and run required reports as needed.
Assist patients in understanding their rights in addition to their responsibilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- All employees assigned to a Medical Treatment Facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations regardless of series, based on occupational risk, and are subject to missing/required immunizations.
- This is an inclement weather position. The incumbent is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.
- This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules
- This position is designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes serving as a liaison between the hospital and patients; providing solutions to patient issues and complaints; developing and conducting training workshops and briefs for various stakeholders; and/or using automated systems to enter data and produce reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as: hospital administration, public health administration or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position, as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
