Duties
Perform Installation Access Control as armed security guard for pedestrians and vehicles accessing Fort Carson.
Performs Visitor Control Center (VCC) duties. Incumbent is responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and
non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
Serve as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents
Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and to ease congestion.
Inspects containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicles, exercises tact, courtesy, and firmness in the performance of all force protection duties.
Operates two-way communications equipment to summon emergency vehicles and crews when assistance is needed.
Exercises crowd control and Implements contingency plans and executes crowd control in situations that may become violent or unruly as a result of planned or impromptu demonstrations.
May confiscate unauthorized or otherwise controlled items, and to detain those suspected of criminal or other illegal activity until law enforcement official arrive.
Assists Department of the Army Civilian and Military police as required by rerouting traffic, obtaining facts, taking statements, etc.
Provides authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures, exercising sound judgment and discretion in response to telephone and in-person security inquiries.
Processes a variety of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) queries and provides timely response as appropriate or required.
Verifies personnel credentials, prints visitor passes and/or badges, creates and edits cardholder records and runs card and/or pass access reports.
12. Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene
14. Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program IAW AR 190-56. Must maintain a high standard of conduct and ability to work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions, and a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons IAW AR 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program.
- It is required the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
- Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
- Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- It is required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual Physical Agility test (PAT) in accordance with the Army Regulation 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
- Failure to meet the physical agility test (PAT) after the second attempt within a ninety-day period will result in separation.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized work experience with the Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved: 1)The protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; 2) Maintaining order and protecting life AND 3) Controlling access of vehicles, visitors and/or pedestrians into a facility or area. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
