About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. We provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support.

Duties

Fabricate, modify, and assemble a variety of rotary wing aircraft and aircraft sheet metal structural parts, components, and portions of assemblies and systems. Lay out and fabricate individual aircraft sheet metal parts from various sheet metals, extruded metal, honeycomb material, composite materials and various other metal alloys. Interpret and work from highly technical blueprints, assembly drawings, manufacturing templates and engineering dispositions. Perform hardness and conductivity testing to verify heat treat condition of aluminum alloys.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position requires to obtain and maintain hardness and conductivity testing training to verify heat treat condition of aluminum alloys and to perform hardness testing to verify hardness of metals and certain plastics within 6 months of training.

The ability to perform common sheet metal duties such as cut, form, and assemble parts by bolting, screwing, and riveting. Manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular objects with constructed fastenings. Use measuring instruments such as pocket rulers, flexible and semi-flexible rulers, dividers, and other hand measuring plans and patterns. Use basic hand and powered tools (i.e. hammers, chisels, hand snips, band saws, squaring shears, bar folders, and brakes). Use water jet and laser operations. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal WorkDexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc)Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires moderate to strenuous effort. The work involves physical exertion, prolonged standing, climbing, working in cramped or awkward positions, reaching, lifting, and bending. May frequently lift items weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and when heavy lifting is in excess of 35 pounds is require the employee will obtain assistance of others or use mechanical handling equipment. WORKING CONDITION: Works inside (occasionally outside) in noisy surroundings. Exposed to hazard of injury from cuts when working with sharp metal edges. Subject to all weather conditions. Danger of falling from overhead. Subject to skin rash in handling plastic resins and fiberglass materials, cuts, bruises, and burns. May be required to wear safety shoes, gloves, and ear protection. May be subject to shift work. May be required to work in cramped and confined spaces.
