About the Position: Serves as an IT Specialist (Network) with United States Army Central (ARCENT), G6 Operations Dvision.
This position is being filled as a term position not to exceed 2 years, may be extended up to six years, and may be converted to permanent without further competition.
Placement rights back to former permanent position will be negotiated but are NOT GUARANTEED and at the losing and gaining organization's discretion.
Duties
Serve as an IT Specialist (NETWORK) with United States Army Central (USARCENT), Assistant Chief of Staff (ACofS), G6, Operations Division – PLEX (Plans and Exercises).
Provides continuity to the ACofS, G6 Directorate on all matters relative to operations, plans, exercises, and networks.
Acts as lead network planning officer responsible for monitoring, reporting, and tracking command-level mission critical information processes, data, and statistics.
Serves as an Operations and Plans subject matter expert on network parameters of ACofS, G6 operations and plans.
Determines appropriate exercise organizational roles and responsibility in large-scale, multi-echelon military operations (e.g., planning for and response to large-scale communication activities).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Special sensitive clearance required.
- Pre-employment and random thereafter drug testing required.
- Up to 25% temporary duty travel (TDY) required.
- Term position NTE 2 years, may be extended and may be made permanent without further competition.
- One-year term trial period may be required.
- Incumbent must be able to achieve Information Technology Access and Information Assurance (IA) Level II within 6 months of appointment.
- Overtime and irregular hours may be required on short notice.
- Shift work may be necessary during crises, contingencies, or exercises. Incumbent may be required to temporarily work extended and irregular tours of duty to include days, nights, shift, and weekends.

If a current, permanent ARCENT employee: Upon termination or expiration of the term position, the employee will be returned to previously held permanent position or one comparable to one vacated (i.e. same series, grade, pay and duty location).
If not a current, permanent ARCENT employee: Upon termination or expiration of the term position the employee may be responsible for securing permanent employment - placement rights back to former permanent position will be negotiated but are NOT GUARANTEED and at the losing and gaining organization's discretion.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of experience which includes: 1) analyzing techniques to mission-essential operational issues sufficient to plan and conduct projects and studies; 2) knowledge of the military command structure, military staff organization, and operations at a division-equivalent organization; 3) applying concepts, principles, and methods pertaining with DISN (Defense Information Systems Network) technologies; and 4) applying, network systems design, testing, installation, operations, management, and maintenance concepts.
The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following definition: specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. My specialized experience includes, or was supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:

(3) Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: convincingly conveying complex information to customers; presenting thoughts that are well-organized and demonstrating confidence in the facts and ideas; adjusting style when working with individuals with different levels of understanding; using various methods to explain and convey information; and
(4) Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Examples of IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: solving complex or sensitive problems by developing and proposing strategic alternatives; identifying possible conflicts and shared benefits; helping team anticipate problems and identifying and evaluating potential sources of information; providing feedback and coaching to others to help solve problems; engaging appropriate stakeholders when developing solutions in order to understand and incorporate multiple perspectives and needs; evaluating the effectiveness of decisions and adjusting future decisions as appropriate.
