The Office of Enforcement Operations (OEO) oversees the use of the most sophisticated investigative tools at the Department's disposal. The Office also processes all requests for Criminal Division records made pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act, and assists U.S. Attorneys' Offices in advocating the Division's position in civil litigation filed under these statutes.

Duties

As a Government Information Specialist, Your duties will include: Processing routine and complex FOIA/PA requests for access to records maintained by the Criminal Division. Serving as the initial point of contact to resolve technical questions within the Criminal Division related to FOIA/PA requests. Applying familiarity with the Criminal Division's organizational structure to ensure that all information maintained by any agency component that falls within the scope of a FOIA/PA request has been located and retrieved. Assisting litigation attorneys in preparing materials for judicial review in cases in which the requester files suit in Federal District Court for disclosure of Criminal Division records. Researching and analyzing complex, unstable, or uncommon administrative, program, or policy issues. Providing advice and guidance for issues that require interpretation and adaptation of guidance to particular situations related to the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act. Serving as the principal point of contact with attorney personnel of the Office of Information Policy in review of Criminal Division determinations which are administratively appealed. Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-11, applicants must have one of the following: Three (3) years of progressively higher graduate education, leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR At least one (1) year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-09 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include duties such as: processing routine Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)/Privacy Act (PA) requests; applying the policies, legislation, and program provisions of the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act programs; researching and analyzing FOIA/PA information and exemption issues; and reviewing records for completeness and evaluating them against established laws and procedures; OR A combination of education and experience. Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level. All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
