About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. Duties
Manages hazardous and non-hazardous waste turn-in and storage pending pick up for off-site disposal.
Arranges for hazardous waste disposal, usually through the Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services.
Prepares or reviews form DD1348s and/or Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifests, and signs manifests certifying that the hazardous waste is packed and marked according to EPA and DOT requirements.
Serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist team leader to accomplish on-site surveillance of storage and disposal, and facilities for the temporary storage of hazardous waste throughout the installation.
Serves as the Classification Unit Manager for the U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Cavazos.
Tracks hazardous waste receipt and disposition, through the Enterprise Environmental Safety and Occupational Health Management Information System (EESOH-MIS).
Interfaces with inspectors, contractors and other regulatory agency personnel as required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical and an annual physical once appointed to the position.
- Obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain RCRA and HAZWOPER training.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conduct on-site assessments to ensure compliance with environmental laws and/or regulations; and coordinate the movement of hazardous waste. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Protection, or Environmental Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
