You will serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist in the Safety Department of MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR.

Duties

You will analyze mishaps and hazardous conditions to determine origin, causes and contributing elements to prepare written reports. You will perform risk assessment of hazardous processes and working conditions to determine hazard control techniques that minimize or eliminate unsafe and unhealthful operations. You will schedule safety inspections, surveys and evaluations for risk assessment to comply with regulations and program requirements. You will prepare written follow up reports with recommendations to correct unsafe acts or conditions. You will Initiate and conduct safety awareness and other educational programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • In support of the Airshow or an emergency the employee may need to work overtime, rotating shifts, and weekends. I am willing and able to work overtime, rotating shifts, and weekends.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Planning, developing, and administering a Safety and Occupational Health program; AND assisting in safety and/or mishap investigations. GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with the planning, developing, and administering a Safety and Occupational Health program; AND assisting in safety and/or mishap investigations. Education

In lieu of specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify for the position based on education. Education obtained must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. To qualify based on education, applicant must possess:

GS-9
Master's or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.B. or J.D., if related None 1 year equivalent to at least GS-7

GS-11
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

or

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or

LL.M., if related
