About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties
Performs rebuild/repair, assembly, adjustment, troubleshooting, and applicable functional test of major mechanical systems and components for heavy mobile vehicles.
Assigns work to employees and provides technical direction.
Performs pre-shop analysis of major systems and components of vehicles.
Uses a variety of hand tools and measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and torque wrenches.
Plans and establishes overall leave schedules.
Visually checks over vehicle to identify missing parts of deficiencies prior to release for inspection.
Plans use of subordinate workers' equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- All applicants are required to successfully complete the Civilian Education System Course and the Supervisory Development Course within 12 months of being assigned to the position. Failure to do so may result in an adverse action.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
- Pre-employment physical is required.
- Temporary Business Travel (TDY) may be required.
- Position may be converted to permanent without further competition.
- Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years.
- Temporary appointment may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- Time Limited Detail NTE may be made or extended at management discretion.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision. This includes the duties of explaining the proper tools, equipment, or parts that is required for the repairs. Demonstrate how to interpret guides such as blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals to perform functions of parts or systems; provide quality control review on performed repairs on heavy mobile equipment vehicles; and illustrate troubleshooting analysis to diagnose malfunctions. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
