As an Editor, you will serve as a key professional in the Communications Division's Editorial Services Unit and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and overall quality of written content including content published in manuals, reports, handbooks, brochures, agendas, bulletins, and other types of publications across all agency communications.
This position is located in the Communications Division, Public Affairs in Washington, DC.
Duties
As an Editor, you will:
Work with experts to draft, edit, and revise documents to maintain consistent editorial and visual identity standards for the agency.
Work closely with authors, writers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders involved in the content creation process to review, edit, and prepare accurate material in a timely manner for publication.
Work with project leads in making substantial and structural edits to written work, establishing a unified tone across products suitable for an official government publication.
Ensure consistency within and across publications and material to ensure content maintains consistency in terms of style, tone, and terminology.
Ensure written products adhere to standards of evidence and managing fact-checking process, which verifies the accuracy of information in edited materials. Verify the accuracy of facts, references, technical information, statistics, charts, data, and references in the content.
Edit and proofread written materials for accuracy, grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and consistency.
Ensure digital content meets accessibility standards outlined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the NB-IV band level or GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience for this position include:
Editing content to ensure it is accurate, clear and written for its target audience; AND
Ensuring that edited content adheres to spelling, grammar, style and punctuation rules; AND
Applying accessibility best practices in formatting documents to adhere to section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.
The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector, or through volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
