Duties
Directs, plans, coordinates, and evaluates the total medical records program activities and resources in which direct health care services, and intra hospital resources, are coordinated
Estimates budget requirements, determines staffing and equipment needs and plans for long-term needs and developments.
Provides advice, counsel and instructions on work and administrative matters.
Assigns, accepts and rejects work
Develops long-range plans based on an evaluation of future needs and possible goals in view of present needs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain RHIA Certification (Registered Health Information Administrator) certification.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing and reviewing medical records policies and procedures; evaluating medical records programs to recommend and/or implement changes to leadership; preparing and briefing leadership on a variety of medical records topics; running a variety of reports to monitor coding data and identifying trends; and providing advice and guidance on medical records and/or Health Information Management issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
RHIA Certification (Registered Health Information Administrator) preferred.
