About the Position: Position is first shift. Work is primarily sedentary, but does require some walking. There is some carrying of medical records, but no more than 10 lbs. Position is in a cubicle office setting. Parking at WRNMMC is very limited and is primarily first come, first serve. The use of commuting alternatives is highly recommended.

Duties
Assure that the timeliness of the completion of these records is in accordance with acceptable Joint Commission scoring guidelines. Oversees, storage and retirement of Inpatient/APV/fetal monitor records.
Create and run reports, performs analysis of departmental discrepancies on various medical records reports.
Monitor quality assurance systems and procedures for medical records programs; analyzing the organization and operation of medical records services, including medical records and indexes.
Utilize various software programs for report generation, such as the Composite Health Care Systems (CHCS) or Clinical Information System (CIS).
Prepare and present regular recurring reports to senior leadership on delinquent and incomplete medical records by medical service. Presents a variety of briefings to senior leadership.
Evaluate work performance of subordinates. Effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases.
Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration and difficulty of assignments. Identify and coordinate developmental and training needs for staff, providing or arranging for needed development and training.
Interface with medical treatment facility employees regarding completion of medical records (e.g., administrators, physicians, medical records personnel, utilization review, financial management, quality improvement coordinators).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
- This position may require a 1-year Supervisory Probationary Period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring quality assurance systems and procedures for medical records programs; analyzing the organization and operation of medical records services, including medical records and indexes, to identify areas needing revision and/or modification; assisting with the implementation of policies and procedures for processing legal medical documents in accordance with Federal, State, and local statutes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Medical Records Administration or Health Care Administration (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Preferred certifications: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
