This position is located at Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (P&SAS) as administrative support to the Chief. Incumbent provides clerical assistance, performs technical, purchasing and administrative duties for key subordinate leaders, and is responsible for alleviating the P&SAS managers of clerical and administrative matters.

GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to complete the duties of the position including those necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Knowledge and ability to properly resolve any patient complaint/problem/issue both verbally and in writing, with tact and diplomacy. Providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; answering telephones, referring visitors, and providing information.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite (Transcripts must be submitted at time of application).

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; twisting; lifting, carrying of light items such as papers, books, binders, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
