About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25.
Duties
Serve as technical expert on the USASNEC-FB secure and non-secure end user building Network Switching Systems, Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) system, Voice over Secure Internet Protocol (VoSIP), and Defense Red Switch Network (DSRN).
Plan and develop secure and non-secure network based voice and data systems, installation,
implementation, integration of system infrastructure, maintenance and management of network
systems.
Coordinate and assign the work of a multi-disciplinary team of individuals to diagnose various sources of network service interruptions.
Work involves installing, testing, troubleshooting, programming, maintaining, and repairing time division multiplexing telephone equipment, network switching equipment, VoIP, VoSIP and computer data circuits.
Compile with all communications security requirements for operation of communications security devices
and compliance with protective distribution systems.
Analyze system failures and other unusual system occurrences to isolate the source of the problem and determine whether the failure is caused by software, hardware, or other factors.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on the networking components, telephone equipment, subcomponents, peripherals and other associated equipment.
Serve as Special Projects Officer, distributing work to network technicians and installation personnel, providing technical and project direction.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
- The employee must obtain and maintain at a minimum a Secret security clearance.
- This position is designated as sensitive, non-critical IT-II for Information Technology purposes.
- The employee may be required to work overtime.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include
evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Call back and emergency duty are regular requirements of this position.
- Physical is required due to lifting and moving computer equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
- This position requires the employee to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
- May be required to wear a portable electronic device (PED) or cellular telephone and maintain a working home telephone at all times.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must clearly describe the following quality experience: One year of experience including performing, or leading other network technicians in, identification, diagnostics, or resolution of complex network related issues; providing status reports or information regarding information system networks to management personnel; and interpreting network security requirements or modifying network device configurations to maintain security compliance.
The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:
(1) Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
