This position serves as a Information Security Specialist in the Justice Management Division (JMD), Security and Emergency Planning Staff (SEPS), Office of Information Safeguards and Security Oversight (OISSO) located in Washington, DC. The Office's primary responsibility is to establish and administer programs for the care, custody, and control of sensitive compartmented information (SCI) on a department wide basis.

The Information Security Specialist provides guidance and policy advice to senior managers regarding original and derivative classification matters, procedural security issues involving the storage, handling and transmission of classified national security information and sensitive but unclassified, and emergency preparedness and destruction of classified information.
As a Information Security Specialist you will:
Exercise independence and judgment in developing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders in the government and private industry to further the agency's Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) or Nationwide SAR Initiative (NSI) program efforts.
Serve as the primary agency technical authority with respect to policy and regulatory impact upon the agency's Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) or Nationwide SAR Initiative (NSI) security programs.
Review and develop new or proposed security policies, procedures, and guidelines for agency-wide use.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
- You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or trial period.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Information Security Specialist, (GS-0080-12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as:
Administering programs for the care, custody, or control of Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI); AND
Monitoring policies, procedures, or standards governing the protection of Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
