This position is located at Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis, MO. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Duties

Work involves the construction, alteration, installation, repair and modification of items and structures such as framework, rafters, concrete forms, walls, doors, finished paneling, window frames, interior and exterior trims, staircases, trusses, beams, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, and computer consoles where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential and structural soundness and appearance are important. Constructs, rehabilitates, modifies and assembles from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions, structures such as framework rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trims, staircases, trusses and beams, small buildings, building interior finishing, etc., where accuracy and spacing are essential and require journeyman level skills and abilities. Repairs, reconstructs, restores, or rehabilitates masonry structures by performing work such as stabilizing or constructing foundations, repainting walls, chimneys, fireplaces, and other building elements and stabilizing or restoring engineered structures using a combination of modern and historic techniques. Fabricates duplicate replacements of deteriorated wood members such as moldings, beams, timbers and stairways. Construction of difficult angle and curved cuts must be exact. Must be able to improvise with materials and supplies available because of distance from supplier. Performs manual tasks such as loading and unloading supplies. Perform general craft skills that may be required include reproduction of historic hardware and other architectural metals, use of epoxies or other wood consolidants, and similar skills needed to preserve, repair, restore, or reconstruct the features of structures listed on or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. May perform other trades work for no more than 20 percent of the time, such as: painting by color coding paints to match existing paints and when the work requires a neat finish and appearance; operating motor vehicles such as vans, sedans, pickups, stake trucks, forklifts and tractors. The vehicles are driven on gravel roads, highways and freeways and are often used for transporting materials to and from work sites; and/or laborer type activities, as needed.
