You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department, Assistant Nuclear Engineering and Planning Manager, Project Support Branch (Code 2301.2) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will manage assigned project work in connection with refueling, alteration, repair, maintenance and testing nuclear reactor plants of an assigned submarine or surface ship.
You will resolve conflicts concerning the work package development.
You will provide advice and recommendations for design changes.
You will participate in the development of the Project Management Plan (PMP) and all major nuclear planning products (TGIs, job summaries, material, etc.).
You will participate in weekly planning meetings.
You will prepare and review project schedules based on analysis of nuclear engineering and other work to be performed.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- The individual must be able to pass the radiological physical exam.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying nuclear engineering methods and techniques.
Experience analyzing problems and their associated corrective actions, and developing the best approach to the planning of projects.
Experience principles, practices, and techniques of the trade skills involved in nuclear work, with material procurement, receipt, inspection, storage, and accounting.
Experience communicating and interfacing with the Department Head level.
Experience applying related engineering fields principles, such as structural, mechanical, industrial, metallurgy, hydraulics, chemical, electrical, quality, and radiological controls
