The primary purpose of this position is to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards.
Duties
- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. Establishes and maintains a good working relationship.
- Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.
- Performs flight line and ground handling operations. Accomplish operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.
- Performs troubleshooting on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures and controls tools

- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.
- Have, obtain, and/or maintain a flightline vehicle operator license.
- Must acquire and maintain Red X inspection certification.
- Must pass aircraft towing and marshalling procedures test annually.
- May be required to obtain/maintain aircraft run-up certification.
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location.
- Travel may include overnight stays.
- May be required to participate in contingency situation real world exercises, as directed.
- Cannot be color blind to colors used for runaway operations (red, green, white).
- Performs other related duties as directed.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800, Aircraft Overhaul Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s)
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led.
4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led.
5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.
6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Heavy lifting (40 Pounds), Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs), hours of straight pulling are 1 hr/day. Hours of pulling hand over hand are 1 hr per day. One hour of pushing per day. Reaching over shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Five hours walking per day. Five hours of standing per day. Three hours of crawling per day. Three hours kneeling per day. Three hours repeated bending per day. Three hours of climbing, leg only per day. Climbing, use of arms, hands, and legs. Both legs required. Operation of truck, tractor, or motor vehicle. Ability for rapid mental and
muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable to 13 inches to 26 inches to jaeger 1 to 4. Specific vision requirement: Cannot be color blind to colors used for runway operations (Red, Green, White). Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing aid permitted. Annual hearing test required. If it cannot be otherwise accommodated, a specific physical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify a candidate.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is preformed outdoors, in/on parked aircraft, in hanger areas, and sometimes in hazardous noise area. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in a awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oil, hydraulic fluids, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injuries from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust gases/blast. Works closely with others and alone.
