About the Position: Incumbent works under close supervision and in a developmental capacity, performing assignments and completing training, both of which are aimed in preparing the employee to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties.
Duties
Employee formulates and presents findings and project paper status reports on findings and recommendations.
Coordinates the activities of the unit to assure steady workflow, maximum production, compliance with deadlines, and priorities, and efficiency of operations.
Conducts in-depth visual classification of boring logs to ensure proper samples are selected for testing and that proper testing procedures are followed for all lab tests.
Analyzes all test results to ensure testing procedures meet the requirements of engineering manuals (EMs) and American Standards for Testing and Materials (ASTMs) related to soil and materials testing.
Requirements

- Must possess a Level 1 Aggregate Testing American Concrete Institute (ACI) certification.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Proficient in performing laboratory testing and analysis procedures according to appropriate American Standards for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards with minimal guidance from the Section Chief, including more advanced soil testing methodologies such as triaxial testing methods, consolidated undrained and unconsolidated undrained; 2) Skilled in the use of common software programs used for advanced soils testing procedures; 3) Experience in using USACE's enterprise database such as OpenGround; AND 4) Experience in cost estimating and scheduling of laboratory testing programs that are large in scope. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the GS-10, you must meet the qualification requirements using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
