You will serve as a Government Information Specialist in the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) Section, Security Programs and Information Management Branch, Administration and Resource Management Division of HQ US MARINE CORPS.

Duties

You will provide support in the administrative processing of requests for information under FOIA and PA. You will process all mail, log new requests, and create request files. You will monitor and download taskers and responses, prepare reports, and generate backups of the FOIA electronic files system. You will process and respond to routine FOIA requests. You will conduct research to ensure actions taken on requests are accurate, timely, and complete. You will monitor billed FOIA fees, prepare delinquency letters, and deposit payments. You will work with requestors to identify responsive documents, and answer questions on records management procedures. You will assist staff and action officers with the interpretation and implementation of the USMC FOIA program. You will assist with the preparation of briefing and/or training materials.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

GS-9 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Processing requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA); 2) Researching, analyzing, and resolving issues related to FOIA and PA to ensure actions taken on requests are accurately completed; 3) Interpreting and applying statutes, regulations, and policies related to FOIA and PA to properly process requests for information for complex cases; 4) Entering data, tracking, and preparing reports utilizing automated database systems and MS Office programs (e.g., Word, Adobe, Excel); and 5) Communicating both orally and in writing with personnel at various levels and the public to provide and obtain information, coordinate actions, and carry out FIOA/PA responsibilities. GS-7 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing most or all of the following duties: 1) Assisting in the administrative processing of requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA); 2) Entering and tracking data utilizing automated database systems and MS Office programs (e.g., Word, Adobe, Excel); 3) Applying statutes, regulations, and policies related to FOIA and PA to properly process requests for information; and 4) Communicating both orally and in writing with personnel at various levels and the public to provide and obtain information related to FIOA/PA cases. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-9 Level
  • successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree;
  • successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree; OR

  • combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

GS-7 Level
  • successfully completed one full year of graduate level education; OR
