This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Office of Chief Counsel, FOIA and Information Law Section. This position primary purpose is to ensures agency compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. § 552) and the Privacy Act (5 U.S.C. § 552a). Directs, monitors, and advises a unit of subordinate staff who are engaged in substantive legal-related work within the FOIA/PA Unit.

As a Supervisory Government Information Specialist (DETAIL Not-To-Exceed 1 Year) your typical work assignments may include: Consulting with DEA Headquarters, field, and foreign offices on complex FOIA/PA matters. Handling congressional and other FOIA inquiries. Monitoring emerging trends and explores new methods, legal research and analytical approaches, and options to increase the unit's productivity. Directing, coordinating, or overseeing the work of supervisors, leaders, team chiefs, group coordinators, committee chairs, or comparable personnel; and/or providing similar oversight of contractors.

  • Selectee will be reassigned back to current, permanent position at the end of the detail.
  • Supervisor's Approval Letter is required at the point of selection.

Qualifications

For GS 15: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 14 Federal grade level in performing the following duties: 1) Planning, administering, and managing an organization's Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act (FOIA/PA) Program; 2) Ensuring compliance and case management of FOIA/PA requests; and 3) Leading staff by overseeing FOIA cases and making recommendations on responses to agency requests and inquires. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
