About the Position: Performs a wide variety of personnel, administrative and clerical tasks associated with the requirements and procedures of Army Reserve personnel programs. Duties include matters of military personnel management and administration relating to and affecting commissioned and warrant officers and enlisted personnel of the Army Reserve, Military retirees, and the family members of Reserve personnel.
Duties
exercise tact, sound judgment, discretion, and a vast knowledge of laws, policies, regulations and procedures in verbally advising and assisting the customers
Responds to telephonic inquiries based on accumulated knowledge of research, as content requires
Performs intensive research of obsolete and occasionally obscure laws, precedents, and other regulatory material and the requirement to make judgment calls when the evidence is missing
Verifies accuracy of information being cited and quoted in replies, regulations and directives, and their application to specific inquiries with key personnel in order to obtain a fully responsive and factual reply
Edits material and makes necessary corrections in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and format.
applies typing skills and knowledge of a limited range of the functions and procedures used in word processing and, if needed, other software to create and edit various standardized documents
uses basic functions and procedures used in spreadsheet software to execute several different routine operations
actively participates on team building activities, including consensus decision making, group/team problem solving, development of team objective, and process improvement activities
Assisting team members and responding constructively to views expressed by others
Analyzes written correspondence to determine action to be taken, the extent of research required, and the source from which to obtain information and the facts to provide a full comprehensive reply
initiates or responds to requests for factual data or documents relating to military personnel files, status or transactions, or to inquiries regarding regulatory requirements
Requirements
- This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Specialized experience To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service which includes Initiating, reviewing or approving personnel management actions for a wide variety of functional areas which could include but are not limited to: Promotions, board support, professional development education, training opportunities, career development, retirement, occupational specialties, mobilization preparation, training orders, preparation for training, incentive programs, reclassifications, transfers, accessions, resignations, assignments, reassignments, separations, extensions of service, transfers between service components, official credentials, correction of errors to promotion files, erroneous discharges and/or other corrections to the official military record. Maintaining either a permanent or temporary record of the management action using various automated or manual systems and working with personnel actions. Demonstrating courtesy, tact and good judgment to provide effective customer service and assistance to the managed population, supporting commands and agencies, and internal offices within the organization.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Education
