The Guardianship Assistance Program (GAP) of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia was first established in August 2008. As part of the Probate Division, the program was created to assist the Court with fulfilling it's mandate to ensure the well-being of incapacitated adults, known as “wards” under court supervision. The Social Worker Case Manager is responsible to visit the ward in their residence and a submit a report to court on their status.

Duties

The Social Worker’s caseload will consist of adults who are considered incapacitated, have been appointed a guardian and are wards of the District of Columbia. The Social Worker is assigned cases on an ongoing basis for the purpose of investigating the continued need for guardianship and making a recommendation to the court. The Social Worker will spend at least 40% of their time conducting visits in the community. The Social Worker is expected to perform the following tasks:

  • Background and security investigation are required.
  • A probationary period of one (1) year must be successfully completed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Grade 9: A Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited program under the Counsel of Social Work Education (CSWE) and possess a valid Licensed Graduate Social Work License (LGSW) from the DC Board of Social Work. One year of post Licensed Graduate Social Work License (LGSW) professional social work experience is preferred. Grade 11: A Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited program under the Counsel of Social Work Education (CSWE) and possess a valid Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work License (LICSW) from the DC Board of Social Work, and two (2) years of post LICSW professional social work experience. The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency. Documentation of Education and a copy of your License must be submitted with your application or your application will not be considered. Please note that this position will start at the grade 9 level unless presently in the Federal or DC government. Applicants please be advised that your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience and that you meet the basic qualifications or you will not be determined qualified for this position.Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts are required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history, fingerprinting, and Child Protection Registry (CPR) check will be conducted.

Education

A Masters of Social Work degree from an accredited program under the Counsel of Social Work Education (CSWE) and possess a valid Licensed Graduate Social Work License (LGSW) or a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Work License (LICSW) from the DC Board of Social Work.
