Duties

Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Manages the base LAN/WAN systems, designs and monitors new complex network systems, configures and installs network hardware/software, and maintains LAN Operations. As a senior IT specialist, performs feasibility studies on complex information systems and conducts in-depth analyses complicated by novel problems. Keeps abreast of emerging technology to predict future network needs. As a senior IT specialist, participates in management discussions, meetings, committees, or special projects.

  • This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • The employee may be required to work o her than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends. and/or holidays. Recall to duty and overtime may be a requirement of this position.
  • The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • nformation Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.
  • Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment to these duties.
  • A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570-01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • The duties meet all requirements as a category 4 designation and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively.
  • This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,")
  • All federal employees are required to have direct deposit
  • A 1-year supervisory probationary period will be required, if not previously met.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series 2210 (Alternative A). https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/ Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. My experience includes experience of organizational policies, mission, resources, operations, capabilities, and requirements; experience of principles, methods, and practices of integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer a computer systems program; : experience of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design, principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements; and security and safety procedures and ability to apply existing guidance. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of approved Air Force information systems. concepts. principles. standards. Methods techniques. materials. and equipment. as we I as knowledge of standard information management regulations practices. and procedures. 2. Knowledge of the principles of planning nd program management: common business and economic principles theories, concepts. and procedures: financial management principles and standards: and of the DoD planning programming. and budgeting system (PPBS). 3. Knowledge of safety and security personnel management. and EEO regulations. practices, and procedures. 4. Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems. 5. Knowledge of complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems. 6. Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to assess in formation, plan the sequence of actions necessary. make sound decisions, and solve a variety of network problems: and to analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective; maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
