This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in a Core Support Section of the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC). The incumbent serves as a work leader in support of Archives Technicians responding to written requests. Work is performed under the direction of the Support Supervisor.
Duties
As a Lead Archives Technician, you will:
Relieve the immediate supervisor of miscellaneous duties and provide technical guidance to core employees.
Review incoming reference requests in a variety of formats and input data using an automated customer relations management software tool.
Input data and prepare system queries of various types of pending search requests to create logical batches of search requests, taking into consideration the complexity of the requests, the priority of the requests, the Center's queue discipline, and the location of the responsive records.
Make work assignments to control the workflow and workload, recognizing potential problem areas relating to production, priorities and workflow; instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and makes available written instructions, reference materials and supplies; gives on-the-job training to new and inexperienced employees.
Answer questions of unit employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc., and obtain needed information on decisions from supervisor on problems that arise.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Operating office automation programs for maintaining database information; AND
Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines; AND
Responding to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing.
OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
