You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/ OCEANOGRAPHER in the Oceanographic Department (NP3), Physical Oceanography Division (NP31), Ocean Analysis Branch (NP312) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will serve as a senior subject matter expert and team lead for the production of oceanographic products in support of Antisubmarine Warfare (ASW), Undersea Warfare (USW), Mine Warfare (MIW), Special Warfare and other Fleet operations.
You will be responsible to conceptualize, develop, implement, document, and train other oceanographers in the Branch on new processes for producing and evaluating oceanographic environmental assessments.
You will coordinate a variety of projects/programs that are in direct support of the Branch's functions.
You will make scientific decisions and draw valid scientific conclusions based on data analyses and fundamental oceanographic theories.
You will perform higher level review of work completed by junior personnel, and ensure oceanographic analytic products meet operational accuracy, security, visual quality, dissemination medium and time requirements.
You will provide oral and written technical reports on data quality observations, data interpretation, problems encountered, recommendations, and equipment conditions.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of physical oceanography, and the marine environment to conduct scientific analysis.
Experience in team leadership, process formulation and evaluation, with emphasis on statistical and qualitative analysis, scientific procedure and problem solving.
Experience in producing physical oceanographic products derived from numerical ocean models, in-situ observations, remotely sensed data, climatologies, and/or literature.
Experience analyzing and determining trends in oceanographic data.
Experience integrating new technologies and capabilities into the collection, processing, or anaysis of physical oceanographic data.
Experience with computers, computer networks, scientific computing and scripting languages, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) applications to support scientific computation of environmental climatologies, time series, probabilities, clustering, or other statistical analysis in automated batch processing.

- Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
