The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) maintains facilities and personnel in 10 countries. The primary purpose of the position is to provide professional expertise and leadership in the field of education and serve as the senior advisor to ABMC leadership on all aspects of education and public engagement to support ABMC's mission. Responsible for programs for the development of additional educational content in collaboration with other premier history and education entities.

Duties

The incumbent is responsible for directing and managing the work of three (3) branches: Public Affairs; Historical Services; and Visitor Services and Interpretation.Duties include but are not limited to: Develops short- and long-range plans and directs activities related to the basic development and continuing improvement of ABMC's programs and activities. Serves as the expert advisor to the Commission, Secretary and senior leadership on all education issues and provides counsel and recommendations concerning all matters related to visitor centers and efforts to educate the public about the service and sacrifice of American armed forces. Plans, designs, executes, and evaluates the overall ABMC education and public engagement programs, determining the best methods and approaches to be used. Directs and oversees the strategic planning and direction of ABMC's education and public engagement programs. Provides executive, technical, and administrative supervision to three (3) subordinate branches.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement as defined below. Specialized Experience: For the GS- 15 level: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-14); or its non-Federal equivalent that demonstrates: 1) creating effective presentations and communications materials that convey the organization's mission and accomplishments, and determining short and long-term strategic goals to achieve them; 2) planning, designing and/or evaluating the overall agency education and public engagement programs; 3) providing executive leadership to and coordinates educational and interpretive programs that encompass different cultural and political settings; 4) directs, coordinates, or oversees the work in the office through subordinate supervisors, leaders, or comparable personnel; 5) determining the best approach or solution for re-solving budget shortages; and plan for long range staffing needs. Educational Substitution is not allowed for this series/grade level.
