This position is located in the Health Information Management Section of the Health Administration Service at the Orlando VA Medical Center, and serves a population of more than 198,263 Veterans in central Florida. The Orlando VA Medical Center provides outstanding health care, trains America's future health care providers, and conducts important medical research.

Duties

The File Clerk primary responsibility is to scan health information not amendable to direct entry (i.e. advance directives, flow-sheets, consents, ICU records, etc.) and numerous medical reports from non-VA facilities and private physicians' offices. Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Tracks, retrieves and performs follow-up activities on health records. Ensures all health/administrative information are integrated into the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) through the PC scanning software and hardware. Confirms information interchange by communicating with clinical and administrative team members. Follows guidelines for dispositioning of documents for unavailable records. Accurately enter/capture workload and assure the completeness of health records. Protects data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows regulations and instructions regarding maintaining the confidentiality of patient information. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Telework: Ad-Hoc may be authorized. VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/31/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: Applicants must have one year of general experience in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. OR, Education (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Applicants must have successfully completed at least (2) years of education above the high school level. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. OR, Combining Experience and Education (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at the GS-4 level. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Organizational AwarenessStandardsTechnology Application Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work Is mostly sedentary; however, some bending stretching, walking, and lifting are required. Working Conditions: The work is normally performed in an office setting that is adequately heated, lighted and ventilated.
