About the Position: This position is located at the U S Army Military Police School Dir of Training and Education Force Protection Training Division on Ft. Leonard Wood. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is in Pulaski County, Mo. Bordering the installation to the North are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2hr. drive to the East along I-44 and Springfield.
Duties
Produce and execute basic police training to DA/DOD law enforcement students in accordance with governing regulations, directives, and the approved USAMPS Program of Instruction.
Train in classrooms, outdoor training sites, vehicles, firearms and vehicle driving ranges and other training locations/ environments to simulate realistic police operations.
Plan and develop methods and logistics to accomplish high quality, challenging, and doctrinally correct resident training.
Utilize law enforcement weapons expertise and skill to conduct weapons training in rifle, pistol, shotgun, and non-lethal weapons/munitions employment.
Conduct such trainings out of doors, in inclement weather to include extremes of heat and cold, while wearing protective equipment, and while performing physically demanding tasks.
Conduct, leads and demonstrates physical fitness examinations of students consisting of 1.5-mile runs, and pushups.
Conduct research and reviews critical tasks and knowledges to write all new, or to make critical updates, to all lesson plans and practical exercises.
Plan, review, and analyze DA/DOD wide law enforcement training, participates as SME with TRADOC and other validations and accreditations, and advises the Course Manager on necessary updates.
Coordinate training requirements with all assigned units to ensure that requested police training needs are met in a timely manner with existing resources.
Maintain rigid risk management system to ensure training safety.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The employee must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft..
- The employee may be required to work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training or on an emergency basis and may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
- This position requires employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
- This position requires the employee to have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
- The incumbent must be capable of operating a motor vehicle and maintaining a valid state driver's license.
- This position requires the employee to be a successful graduate of the USAMPS courses assigned, but not limited to, USACPA, Foundation Instructor Facilitator Course, and the ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate) model.
- Successful completion of all assigned courses will be completed as scheduled and within six months of employment.
- This position requires the employee to operate, maintain, and receipt for various weapons systems used within training.
- This position requires the employee to be certified as a United States Army Civilian Police Academy (USACPA) Instructor within the first 12 months of employment.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether thy have been ever convicted of such offense.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
- The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R (Condition of Employment for Certain Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program) and must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically.
- This position requires the employee to be able to pass a pre-employment and annual medical examination in order to be able to perform physically arduous training.
- Incumbent is subject to an annual medical clearance examination, including the wearing of self- contained breathing apparatus, to determine their suitability for this position.
- Incumbent must have the ability to climb onto and into commercial and combat vehicles, stand for several hours duration and lift, on occasion, up to 80 pounds.
- Must obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: (1) instructing basic law enforcement training curriculum in the field of tactics, practical application of use of force, and law enforcement officer operational and patrol techniques; (2) evaluating and/or developing law enforcement curriculum, and applying risk analysis to ensure training safety; (3) applying law enforcement regulations, policies and procedures in order to perform enforcement officer operational and patrol techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: I have successfully completed a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or Forensics Science. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcement.
This position is a TEMPORARY position, Not to Exceed 30 September 2024.
Position may be filled as a temporary promotion or temporary reassignment NTE 30 September 2024 by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions or reassignments may be extended up to a maximum of five years and may be made permanent without further competition.
Position may be filled as a temporary appointment NTE 30 September 2024, if the candidate is not a current Army employee. Temporary appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years.
