You will serve as an ARCHIVIST in the ARCHIVES BRANCH of THE NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.
Duties
You will serve as a Processing Archivist assisting in the accomplishment of the Branch mission and functions specifically in the area of the arrangement and description of official records.
You will organize, arrange, describe, and preserve official records and personal papers collections held within the Archives of the Naval History and Heritage Command.
You will maintain physical, intellectual, and administrative control over archival materials through the digitization process.
You will analyze archival materials in relation to their function, background, content, and use to make recommendations regarding their retention or destruction.
You will analyze, process, and make available born-digital and digitized records.
You will assist the Digital Archives Team Lead with the processes such as the management of electronic files and databases, image capture, data migration, and metadata creation.
You will produce detailed and accurate processing plans, finding aids, catalog records, and metadata entries in accordance with the Archives' Processing Manual.
Requirements

Qualifications
GS-11 Level: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience performing archival work in appraising, accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving, publishing or providing reference service from public records and historical documents equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate performing the following duties: 1.) Utilizing mandated computer systems to carry out the organization, description, and digital preservation of archival materials; 2.) Analyzing archival materials in relation to their function, historical background, content, and use to make recommendations regarding retention or destruction; 3.) Producing detailed and accurate processing plans, finding aids, catalog records, and metadata entries for digital archival records.
GS-09 Level: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience performing archival work in appraising, accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving, publishing or providing reference service from public records and historical documents equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Applicants must possess:
A bachelor's degree in archival science or a bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government
OR a combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Education Substitution for Experience at the GS-11 Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
OR possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR have completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR a combination of graduate education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience
