You will serve as a Archivist in the Archives Branch of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.

Duties

You will perform archival work such as accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving and servicing of born digital records as well as analog records that were/will be digitized for access or preservation. You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of digital collections and electronic records. You will assess best practices for digital preservation and conversion. You will manage and direct digitization projects that provide long-term access to paper and microform records as well as born-digital records. You will identify and establish priority for the digitization and electronic posting of collections and records and images related to operation and programmatic history of the post-1940 United States Navy. You will be responsible for managing electronic files and databases.

Requirements

  • You will be required to move records, which may exceed 40 pounds in weight.

Qualifications

GS 12: In addition to the Basic Requirement for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector appraising, accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving, publishing or providing reference service from public records and historic documents. As well as converting paper records and materials to a digital format. Examples of specialized experience includes the following: 1) Formulating, maintaining, and implementing archival policies and procedures pertaining to acquisitions, accessioning, deaccessioning, collections management, and other digital conversion practices. 2) Performing professional archival functions and appraising records to determine the evidential or informational value and make recommendations regarding their retention or their destruction. 3) Applying knowledge to digitize records such as image capture, data migration, and metadata creation. 4) Utilizing and maintaining digital archival content management tools and databases for digital and paper records. 5) Ensuring correct preservation methods and disposition methods of original records are followed. GS 11: In addition to the Basic Requirement for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector appraising, accessioning, arranging, describing, preserving, publishing or providing reference service from public records and historic documents. As well as converting paper records and materials to a digital format.   1. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. or
  2. Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Education substitution for the GS-11 level:
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR

Successful completion of three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
