About the Position: The person in this position will perform as an independent licensed social worker and certified addictions counselor (CAC) at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center and provide professional social work services to various beneficiary groups, scattered over a large geographical area, arriving from and discharged to, worldwide locations.

Duties
Provide social work services to patients, including detailed substance abuse history and bio-psychosocial examination, to substantiate or exclude diagnosis of substance abuse or dependence.
Independently counsel patients on primary and secondary illnesses.
Prepare written findings and diagnoses in a detailed, clear, and concise manner.
Conduct ongoing review of patient progress and evaluate and modify treatment plans to meet changing needs.
Collaborate with Military Treatment Facility and other services for the purpose of coordinating follow-up and treatment to assure continuity of patient care, facilitate necessary transfers within facility, and post discharge follow-up and treatment.
Provide relapse prevention counseling, crisis intervention counseling, and motivational interviewing strategies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations; the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Basic Requirements for Social Worker (Substance Abuse):Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting social work services to clients and/or patients, providing crisis intervention counseling, and developing treatment plans. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
License: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted independent social work clinical licensure from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
