Duties
Plans, develop, coordinate, integrate and execute all services provided by the Casualty Assistance Center (CAC).
Communicates directly with family members of deceased military/civilian personnel to express condolences and coordinates all casualty actions with the family and the assigned Casualty Assistance Officer (CAO) and Casualty Notification Officer (CNO).
Establishes measures to ensure that burial honors/entitlements are given to all veterans, in accordance with applicable law, regulations, and DOD guidance.
Researches guidance, policy and procedures on casualty and mortuary affairs matters for operational efficiency of the Casualty Assistance Center.
Provides advice and guidance to Commanding General, major subordinate commands, and other units within the CAC area of responsibility on matters relating to casualty and mortuary services.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Position may have business travel requirement of up to 15% of the time.

This position will be filled as a temporary promotion NTE 3 years by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years, and may be made permanent without further competition.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: Your resume must reflect that you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes coordinating the transfer of deceased service member remains and personal effects; coordinating burial ceremonies; and advising deceased service members next of kin on benefits and entitlements (i.e. Service members Group Life Insurance, Death Gratuity, Social Security or other VA benefits). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Science, Sociology or Business Administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
