About the Position: Serves as a senior Civil Engineering Technician with responsibility for directing the efficient and effective accomplishment of assigned activities, provides technical guidance and instruction on work requirements, methods, and procedures.
Duties
Support coordination of the utilization of vessels, equipment and personnel with Branch and other District personnel for section's navigation mission.
Review survey information on major and minor waterways submitted by subordinates.
Analyze survey data and makes recommendations to the supervisor as to whether navigation bulletins are needed to notify users of dredging activities.
Perform evaluations on Mississippi River deep draft crossings and plots data in order to provide current survey information and to identify shoaling patterns.
Makes personal contacts with various maritime interests, supplying them with channel conditions while also listening to their needs and concerns; and making appropriate determinations where improvements are required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period.
- Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
- This position requires working an alternate work schedule of Monday through Thursday, 10-hour days, 4 days a week; or a Monday through Friday, 8-hour days, 5 days a week schedule.

Specialized Experience for GS-10:
One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Interpreting and reviewing survey data and/or reports; AND 2) Scheduling reconnaissance surveys of waterways and/or disposal areas; AND 3) Coordinating the use of various resources. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
Specialized Experience for GS-11:
One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Interpreting and reviewing hydrographic survey data and/or reports; AND 2) Scheduling reconnaissance surveys of waterways and/or disposal areas; AND 3) Coordinating the use of various resources; AND 4) Providing guidance on work procedures to other personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Time in Grade Requirement: Time-In-Grade requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) Position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade GS 09 for the GS 10 and GS 10 for the GS 11 (or equivalent).
With regards to time-in-grade validation, if you held a position other than a GS pay plan, be sure your resume includes the pay plan and the salary you earned during the assignment. Without this information, your time-in-grade validation may not be able to be verified and will result in your not meeting the time-grade requirement for this vacancy.
