Duties
Conduct assessments to evaluate potential health hazards.
Provide recommendations to resolve health hazards.
Recommend changes in procedures or schedules in accordance with established standards.
Evaluate conditions that may be hazardous to employees.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Incumbent must possess a valid civilian and/or military driver's license
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying potential health hazards; ensuring compliance with established occupational safety and health regulations; and/or utilizing automated systems to prepare a variety of technical reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes providing information to employees on safety or occupational health subjects; collecting/monitoring exposure data to assess work practices and environmental conditions; and/or monitoring exposure data to assess environmental conditions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting inspections and preparing reports using automated systems; evaluating potential health hazards to recommend mitigating courses of action; and/or training employees in safety or occupational health subjects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
OR
Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
