This position is located in State and Private Forestry, Office of Tribal Relations. Responsibility of the position is to assist and support the Office of Tribal Relations in functions associated with program and policy development, with a primary focus on natural resource issues. The position will provide advice, support development, and conduct oversight of Forest Service national policies dealing with tribal relations issues.
Duties
Provides advice and assistance on policy and procedures for the organization on tribal issues.
Compares current agency policy with Statutes, Executive Orders, and Indian Law.
Plan and carry out a variety of tasks to participate in the planning and execution of major liaison activities in support of the Tribal Relations Staff.
Communicates information to management for effective evaluation of program operations and performance.
Influence or persuade others to adopt particular, approaches, and concepts.
Write correspondence, memoranda, press releases, or other documents relevant to program activities.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-13: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as a majority of the following: provide advice, support development, and conduct oversight of policies dealing with tribal relations issues, and will support the Regional tribal relations efforts in implementing national initiatives in tribal relations; plan and carry out a wide variety of tasks to participate in the planning and execution of major liaison activities in support of the Tribal Relations Staff; communicate information to management for effective evaluation of program operations and performance.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
